Electric transport

Currently there are different electric mobility solutions valid at a technical level, to be able to say that electric transport and solar electric transport are valid, reliable, and economical. EV cars, cars or electric vehicles worldwide already occupy between 1% and 10% of new cars sold, depending on the country. Although there are many technical details and ways of use, here is a simple comparison.
The advantages of electric transport compared to combustion are:

  • Low cost in consumption; A recharge of the batteries costs around $1.50 for 100 kilometers of distance.
  • Zero environmental pollution; No toxic polluting gases are generated.
  • Zero noise; Electric motors produce almost no noise.
  • Almost no maintenance cost; There are much fewer mechanical parts and pieces, there is no need for a gearbox, clutch, injectors, pumps, exhausts, spark plugs, there are no filters and oils to change.
  • Fewer mechanical breakdowns; With fewer mechanical parts and pieces there is less replacement cost and there is less cost and time in the shop.
The disadvantages of electric transport are:

The cost of acquiring an electric vehicle is high; mainly due to the high cost of the advanced technology battery, and in the case of wanting to use the vehicle beyond the useful life of the battery, the investment for changing the battery must be calculated. Nowadays, most manufacturers offer 10-year warranties, which covers the expected use of a car.

Workshops or qualified technical personnel are required; In the case of review, maintenance, or repair of the electrical system, specialists are depended on.

*The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute's 2018 study found that electric vehicles cost less than half of what gasoline-powered cars operate. The average cost of operating an EV in the United States is $485 per year, while the average for a gasoline vehicle is $1,117. Studies carried out in Europe show the same trend.

** The different costs depend on the country and brands, of course, the argument of high costs in electric mobility no longer applies to cars for daily use.
Basis of the calculation are: the electric vehicle is 20% more expensive to purchase compared to the same fossil fuel vehicle; and that the first owners of the cars would use them within 10 years. Obviously this comparison must be made with real local costs.
